Offline Google Earth
This guide will help you to view Google earth in offline mode (Offline Google Earth) If you are using a slow internet connection or even you haven't a internet connection to your home PC but having fast internet connection in your working place or studying place to view Google earth without problems.
Method
1. Explore your interested places in Google earth using PC, which has been connected to internet with fast link.
2. Copy the cache file (dbCache.dat) from that PC.
You can find this file by following this path (for a typical installation of Google earth).
C:\Documents and Settings\******\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Earth
(***** is for the name of account you logged in)
Copy icon folder also.
3. Install Google earth in your machine.
4. paste dbCache.dat and icon folder in to your machine according to the above path in your machine.
If your machine has been connected to Google earth server and viewed the globe at least one time then you have done 100% and now you can view your interested places using your machine.
But if your machine has not been connected to Google earth server ever or no internet connection then follow the below procedure further.
Now you have to do a simple registry editing. You have to create two new string values to the registry.
They are "Key" and "VID" under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Earth]
As "Key" you can put any 12 characters you want.
But the "VID" is a unique code for a given version of Google earth software.
5.copy these 4 lines to a text file and then rename it "***.txt" to "***.reg"
(Below i have given the "VID" for google earth version 4.0.2742)
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus]
"Key"="000000000000"
"VID"="AAAACDQuMC4yNzQy"
6.Then double click on the file and press ok.
Finally you have done it and enjoy Google earth without an internet connection on your PC.
Some "VID" 's for various Google earth versions,
version 3.0.0739,
AAAACDMuMC4wNzM5
version 3.0.0762.0,
AAAACDMuMC4wNzYy
version 4.0.1565 (Beta Version),
AAAACDQuMC4xNTY1
version 4.0.2742,
AAAACDQuMC4yNzQy
version 4.2.0205.5730,
AAAADTQuMi4wMjA1LjU3MzA=
You can download the registry file for
Google earth version 4.0.2742 from here,
http://rapidshare.com/files/26964820/4.0.2742.reg.html
Google earth version 4.2.0205.5730 from here,
http://rapidshare.com/files/101220882/4.2.0205.5730.reg.html
Please don't try to edit any other registry keys. If you do so do it at your own risk.
The procedure has been tested with windows XP SP2.
If you have any comments don't hesitate to put them in the comment section.Comments may help to solve problems of other users.

Got this to work on Windows XP SP2. Can't seem to make it work on Windows 2000 Professional, I made the same exact changes. 2KP displays a message saying it will use the cached version which is promising, but then insists on going to kh.google.com. :-(
Very nice tips.. thx
If I want to explore all the earth surfaces with high detail, how many disk space do I need? Is it more than 2 GB?
:)
It is impossible

Thank you for the tips, specially the reg hack.
Cheers

Las version 4.2.0181.2634 installed on two win2k PCs. Cannot make it work on the one that's never been connected to internet even if cache is there and reg keys added.
How to solve it?
Thanks a lot. I guess we need to copy the dbCache.dat.index in addition to dbCache.dat file. I also noticed it caches the images which often take time other wise how do we copy the images to be viewed on Google earth? would appreciate if there is any workaround. Keep up your good work.
Does this increase the original maximum cache of 2GB? I would like to have a larger area (not the whole world though) for GPS travel.
@Umapathy,
You are welcome.
@rick,
This is only a simple guide to offline google earth.Therefore this guide will not help you to increase the size of the cache file. but you can use multiple cache files.
eg: Browse a specific location in google earth. Then backup dbcache.dat and delete from the original place.
again browse google earth for another specific location. Then backup new dbcache.dat file.
now you are having 2 cache files for two locations.
i tried to find a way to merge such files together,but no success :(
Still dbcache.dat is a black box for me.
@rick,
If you have already got a big cache file near to 2 gb then,
follow this path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus\Cache
and edit "DiskCacheSize" RegDword.
Use decimal base for easy configuration.
I didn't try this because i haven't got such a larger cache file.
Can't make it work. Please explan what is Key and VID. Do you have solution for the latest GE release?
Can you put more VID code?
Thanks
I have explained about "key" and "vid" in the post.
i updated the post with downloadable ".reg" file for latest GE release.
(i.e for version 4.2.0205.5730)
also "vid" for the latest GE version.
r\sir,

and i have

2. Copy the cache file (dbCache.dat) from that PC.

but i have not do that please help me .???
can i do this in Linux??? How?
@ andressinmiedo
try to find the installed folder.
in ubuntu i installed GE in home folder and the folder is hidden typically. you can press ctrl + h to view hidden files.
.then you can see a folder called ".googleearth". inside that you will find another folder called "Cache". then you will find "dbCache.dat" inside that folder. Try to replace "dbCache.dat" file. i couldn't try the procedure because of problems with my graphic card.
i will update the blog for linux users soon.
eg in ubuntu,
/home/username/.googleearth/Cache
Please post the GE4.3 reg file modification.
Many Thanks! Great work!
I put new post for Google earth 4.3.7204.0836 (beta)

@Aldo Lamas,
Cant understand the language :(
Please mention the language, then i can use a translator.
I loaded GE on a PC and a Laptop, both with Win XL recently (less than a month ago).
I can not find the db Cache.dat file by this method on either computer.
"You can find this file by following this path (for a typical installation of Google earth).
C:\Documents and Settings\******\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Earth"
I've tried search too without success.
Ideas on where to look??
@Venado Loco,
search using word "dbCache.dat" instead of "db Cache.dat".
Also try advanced search
Here another method to find the path for "dbCache.dat"
Start > RUN then type regedit and enter.Then you will get the registry editor.
Then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Google > Google Earth Plus.
In right hand pane, under "Cachepath" key you will see the actual path for the cache file.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I went to advanced search and "hidden files" and the files popped up.
Hi, thanks for the tip.
I wanna contribute with the VID value for version 4.0.2091,
Version = 4.0.2091
VID = AAAACDQuMC4yMDkx
Thanks again :)
Thanx norlandsky.
Really appreciate your contribute.
Thanx.
Thanks for the info. Works great. If someone can help, I have two questions:
1) Do I need to copy dbCache.index? Seems like I can get by without this but I'm not sure if I am missing something.
2) I thought that the cache file would store all visited areas, building them up till they hit the cache limit size & then do something to reclaim space. Its seems to be more complicated than that. For example, I visited one area in great detail. Quit GE & restarted. Visited another area in great detail. Quite GE. Went off-line from internet. To my surprise, some of the detail from my two sessions was lost. During this whole time my max cache size was set to 2GB and my file grew to less than 700MB max. Any idea how the cache is really manage? Anyone else notice this?
Can anybody provide me the VID code to version 4.3.7284.3916 of GE? Thanks! =)
@ Brazillian,
VID for version 4.3.7284.3916 is,
AAAADTQuMy43Mjg0LjM5MTY=
I tried the VID value for version 4.3.7284.3916 as posted and I don't see an earth. I get an earth if I have the GE program online one time - (like you said in your blog). But did anyone test the VID for this version? I followed everything to book... help!
Did you read my second post?
if not,
use "Key"="============" instead of "Key"="000000000000".
Please try that. Hope you will update us with your result.
Thanx.
Regarding GE version 4.3.7284.3916 related posts (17 sep'08)
Updated registry successfully according to recipe but still GE wants to connect to internet for account activation and no initial globe is displayed.
Advice resort to older GE versions?
VID is
AAAADTQuMy43Mjg0LjM5MTY=
and
try using "00000000000" or "123456789011" etc as the key.
update us with your feedback.
Thanx
Yahooo GREAT Been Searching for Years First Person who Actually Knows How
So Thank YOU VERY Much
I also have some questions
First
Ok What I have is Google Earth Plus v4.3.rar
Google Earth Plus 4.3.7284.3916
Which will work offline.
1A On start up it has the popup saying Diagnostic (takes 40 seconds)
1B Question how to bypass or reduce the time
2A One time it wouldn`t start and I found the updater.exe working.
2B Question what Dword to tell it last checked 2020
I figure that this will happen with all offline GE`s, after xx-days or xx-starts
3A Note to everyone to truly test block ge in your firewall so it never starts with the internet.
Some finds I have found on the net

Increase Cache size
Use reg edit to change the maximum amount of cache in google earth - Find the reg "Google Earth Plus" then open the tabs to see cache reg - open cache reg and edit the values of maximun cache, dont try to use more than 4090 because GE only takes an hex of tree numbers - the maximum value is "FFF" = 4094.
I tryed to use other values and only takes the tree last numbers of the reg. Is not to much but is two times bigger than the original cache size of GE. I hope this tip can help somebody.

NOTE I think he means 4095

Bloody stupid of Google to restrict the size of the cache. Why isn't left to the discretion and needs of the user? It's almost as bad as Microsoft!
